According to CBC News, the Canadian Food Allergen/Gluten Labelling Regulations are moving forward and should hopefully should be in effect within 18 months. This is great news, however, there is still a concern with brewed products since an exemption is currently being made for the brewer’s industry. Personally, I’m thrilled to hear the news about this regulation moving forward. As a result, lives may be saved and many sick days may be avoided. In the past, it was very easy to accidentally be exposed to a food allergen due to labelling laws that didn’t require specific allergens to be easily identified on labels. The passing of this new regulation is definitely a move in the right direction.

Hopefully, the government will continue to work with the brewer’s industry to help them implement similar labelling in the future. I think it is important for this labelling regulation to eventually apply to all industries so that no one has to suffer unnecessarily due to accidental exposures to allergens.
