The “Look Inside” feature has been set up for my book, “Gluten Toxicity”. This feature will enable you to view the table of contents, the first few pages, the index, and the back cover. When I am shopping for books at Amazon, I really enjoy this feature because it confirms the exact content that the book will include. Hopefully, the “Look Inside” feature will be set up soon on the other Amazon sites as well.

To view this feature, click on this link, then click on the words “Look Inside” located at the top of the image of my book.

Canadian Proposed Food Allergen/Gluten Labeling Regulations In Jeopardy

January 25, 2011 · Filed Under Food Allergen/Gluten Labeling · Comment

This morning, I received an e-mail from Shelley Case who is on the medical advisory board for the Celiac Disease Foundation, the Gluten Intolerance Group, and the Canadian Celiac Association. Shelley is also the author of “Gluten-Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide”.

Today’s e-mail is about a very important concern that could affect the health of 2.8 million Canadians with food allergies and gluten intolerance. For over 10 years, the Canadian Celiac Association and allergy associations have been advocating for better labeling laws so that Canadians can rightfully see the food allergens that may be in their foods. Progress was occurring, but now the proposed food allergen/gluten labeling regulations are in jeopardy. Please read Shelley’s e-mail below along with the links for more details. It is very important to support this movement. Without change, the health of many Canadians could be negatively impacted.

Many people are told that they have a lactose intolerance and are never investigated further to find the cause. Usually, only a lactose-free diet is recommended. I think we (doctors, nurses) need to dig a little deeper. Gluten could be the trigger and a gluten-free diet could be the real solution. For many, a lactose intolerance may actually disappear once an individual is consuming a gluten-free diet.

This is a fascinating story. A veterinarian student from the University of Missouri (USA) sent her dog to Slovenia to complete a gluten-detection training course. She takes all the standard precautions to avoid gluten and only uses her dog as a final precaution. Such an interesting role for a pet!
